Learn with curiosity
By Oswaldo Koch
In most cases success
comes through understanding and fixing our mistakes
rather than getting things right first time. Expose
yourself to lots of different ideas and try different
approaches, on the grounds that failure is common. Do
not get discouraged if ideas or concepts seem too difficult
to understand. Relax: just sit, reflect, or slow down.
Once you find great information, then meditate. Do nothing.
Let the thoughts come to you. Start with the basics,
and work upward.
Sometimes
you have to read an article a few times before you even
begin to understand it. Some people think in pictures,
some learn best by listening, others like to learn by
doing. In any case, enjoy the process of learning and
understanding, and do not be afraid to tackle concepts
you have never seen before. It's in your nature to learn
and when you feel that you have already become an expert
in your field, working on it for so long, keep innovating
to keep the fire burning!
The
following 5 steps will help you learn with curiosity:
Engage your feeling
- We remember more vividly information that comes
to us in an emotionally aroused state. Linking feelings,
senses and imagery to bland ideas makes them more
real. We used to counted on your fingers when learning
numbers, in the same way, we should use our senses
when we are thinking and learning
Visualize and
Trace Back - Put away your books and start with
a random fact or concept. Then relate that idea to
another concept in your subject. Keep doing this tracing
pattern until you've linked many ideas together. The
name Yoga reminds you of India which reminds you of
Gandhi, reminding you of "You must be the change
you wish to see in the world."
Write
to Analyze
- Take a piece of paper and write out the connections
in the information. Reorganize the information into
different patterns. Find ways to group information
into smaller chunks of memory through pictures or
mnemonics. Scribble and use abbreviations to link
the ideas together.
Learning
through Diagram
- Create diagrams showing the relationships between
ideas. This is a manual way you can create connections.
The importance is that you explore as many different
ways to connect ideas as possible, not just repeating
the same diagrams. If you have varied connections,
then if you happen to forget one, you'll remember
the ideas through another.
Teach to learn
- Explain ideas to yourself as you would to a ten
year old. The idea is that you should be able to simplify
an idea enough so it seems obvious to yourself. Keep
your ideas simple simple. Good ideas are often simple
ones, and this rule applies to good learning as well.
Curiosity
is a difficult emotion to understand and an even harder
one to define. Curiosity is common to human beings at
all ages from infancy through adulthood.
As
this emotion represents a thirst for knowledge, curiosity
is a major driving force behind the design of nature,
which is easy to observe in humans and many other animal
species.

To
be a winner, I have to think like a winner
The
starting point of any success is always to think like
a winner. As a winner, I see myself, my goals and my
future clearly. As a winner, I think about the things
I want to achieve and feel the pleasure of achieving
them. As a winner, I accept total responsibility for
my actions and I take every opportunity I can to surround
myself with successful people. Each step that I take
makes me stronger and more committed to be a winner.
